Foggers kill now, misters kill later.

The main difference is that foggers provide immediate knockdown while misters leave a residual barrier that keeps working for weeks.

A fogger (thermal or ULV) blasts a fine aerosol that saturates the air and kills any mosquitoes it touches in that moment. It’s great if you’re hosting a backyard dinner in an hour and don’t want everyone covered in bites. The downside? The effect evaporates in a couple of hours. New mosquitoes will fly in from the neighbor’s yard.
